Okay, so at the Professor Haus, there are not one, but two Ice Cream Stands within walking distance. Unfortunately, one of them is closed (and for sale). Fortunately, the other one is open (and owned by friends from my ceramics class).
Even more fortunately for me, they currently have Coffee Cheesecake ice cream on tap. And as a lover of both, my mouth couldn’t wait to try it. So I carried myself up there today.
Okay, well, I didn’t carry myself up here. Mickey dropped me off on the way to work. But I am walking myself home. It’s a gorgeous June day in Michigan. Mid-70s, super-blue sky, and a bit of a breeze. I love the weather here so much, y’all. Yes, even when it is icy and snowy (although I’m sure that opinion would change if I had to drive to work every day).
Here is my view:

And here is it’s view of me:

I am, as always, wearing some sort of Third Man Records merch. Today’s entry is the shirt (which you can see above) and a pair of socks, which you can see below:

I have a lot of Third Man Records Merch. That is for a few reasons:
- I love Jack White.
- Thus, I am also a bigfan of his record label.
- Every single piece of clothing I have purchased from TMR has been incredibly high quality.
- One shirt I have bought for multiple people so that they can also feel all soft and stripey
- I love talking to other TMR lovers while I am out and about.
- I always match, cause I’m (almost) always yellow and black.
And you might notice my hat, which says, “the color clear”. I am not normally a hat girlie, because my head just doesn’t take to them. This one? I love. It is merch (purchased later online) from the Julio Torres off-Broadway show I saw last year, “Color Theories.” You can now watch it on HBOMax if you are so inclined. I personally think you should be very inclined because this show made me feel very seen.
While this hat is official merch from Color Theories, I feel more of a “Fantasmas” kinship to it, because of the opening scene. I wear this hat pretty regularly when my hair is being kind of trashy, which feels like a lot lately because it is longer than normal, and I feel less like myself when it is longish. I want to get a fancy haircut next time I am in NYC, so I’m trying to let it grow out as much as possible before then (Idk when I’m going back, but probably for sure next March to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “The Warriors” in its fully-staged glory.)
Ice Cream Break
Okay, well, at first my brain thought “coffee and cheesecake… TOGETHER?” I mean, they are two great tastes, but do they taste great together? My official answer is a resounding, “YES!!!!” I’ve been having an ice cream moment as of late, which is actually kind of weird for me, cause normally I’m a cold-weather ice cream girlie instead of a summertime one.
My current ice cream of choice is cookies and cream cappuccino, so the coffee portion of this concoction was not a hard sell for me. Mixed with cheesecake, though? What the heck are they thinking? Well, I am thinking they are geniuses, because that’s exactly what this ice cream is… genius. No single flavor overpowers the other, though I would say it leans more towards coffee than it does cheesecake. It really works. And the chunks of Oreo-ish cookies take it to the next level. I like that there are both big pieces and little pieces of cookies in the coffee and cheesecake cream. That sort of variety hypes me up.
Let’s have a little modeling session for this ice cream, okay?

Okay.
Now Back to the Hat
I didn’t plan to talk so much about my clothing today, but then I really had no plan other than:
- Go to Banana Split Heaven
- Eat some ice cream
- See what I can see
- Hear what I hear
- Mostly Max Richter in my ear buds
And so far, that has been people walking by, cars driving by, and my friend from ceramics stopping by to see how I liked the ice cream. Short answer: loved it. Long answer? This whole dang blog.
So, about this hat. I love it. It’s comfortable, and I wear it a lot. I don’t like things on my head or my hair up very much because it makes my head feel heavy. It also often gives me a headache the next day. It took me a long while to figure out this connection. Being aware of this is just one tiny change I’ve made to the way I move about the world that has done wonders for my mental health. It’s not about huge changes, y’all. It’s about paying attention to the small things and cutting out the ones that don’t serve you.
This hat does indeed serve me and the needs of my picky head. I’m claiming that it is imbued with some sort of Julio Torres magic in order to make it so. I am probably gonna order another one, so I’m not wearing this one exclusively. Probably the Bibo one, but I don’t have a lot of blue clothes, so we’ll see.
One of the things I hope every time I wear this hat is that someone will ask me about it. They’ll see it, read it, and tilt their head to the side and say, “Um, the color clear?! There is no color clear.”
And I will look them dead in the eyes and say, “Then what do you call the space between us?”
Which is a direct Julio Torres quote, I do believe.
I haven’t written a meandery blog like this one in a while, and it’s because I haven’t had the brain space to meander. Things seem to be finally settling back down (FINGER FUCKING CROSSED HARD) and the space made itself visible to me this week… so I took it.
I hope it keeps coming.
I’m gonna finish up my ice cream and then walk back home.
Here are some photos from my walk. I really hope the train is still there cause it had some great grafitti when I left the house.

The train was gone, but in the pics above, you may notice:
- crazy puffy clouds
- a hidden building i am low-key obsessed with
- fence blooms
- granite city over here
- i dunno, trees?
- a defunct putt-putt course
- the building in front of the overgrown minigolf course
- it used to house skee-ball
- the sign out front used to read “atlantis play space”
- or something like that
- unintentionally cool wall
- flora
That’s my adventure for the day. Have you done anything wandery lately? I wanna hear about it! (even if you are reading this 5 years later.)
