Heathers, Widows, Merritt, Litt (Things I Loved: June 2026)

First off, the title of this blog post sounds like a very prestigious law firm. One that probably specializes in creative divorces, I’m thinking (that’s where Widows comes in). However, a law firm is NOT among the things I loved this month. A singular lawyer or two might be, though.

“Heathers: The Musical” (West End Pro Shot, YouTube)

Heathers was the first movie I remember telling people I loved, and after they watched it, they looked at me differently. On the one hand, fuck them. On the other hand, yay me for having incredible taste in media. I watch the movie version of “Heathers” at least once a year, and it never, ever lets me down.

I’ve not had the chance to watch this live yet, so when I saw the West End Pro Shot was available on the YouTubes, I hit play immediately.

You can watch it too. I love a pro-shot. The costumes and lighting in this one were particularly excellent.

Elsbeth (Paramount Plus)

Hello, Elsbeth is me, and I am Elsbeth. This show is SO GOOD. The guest stars almost always hail from Broadway in one fashion or another. And speaking of fashion, I would like Elsbeth’s wardrobe, please.

I need 5 more seasons of this show, and I need them immediately.

Lawyer Show Interstitial Music

Okay, so we decided to watch “Suits” after “Elsbeth”. Keeping the lawyer vibes going in June, I guess. The music in between scenes on “Suits” is so, like, typical lawyer show. Like, it’s telling the viewer how they should be feeling.

Especially in the earlier seasons. Maybe in the later seasons, too. I’ve just gotten used to it by now. I don’t think I like the show. But we’re almost done, so I’m in till the end.

Coffee Ice Cream

It’s an ice cream summer (she writes when it is almost 100 degrees outside and 90 degrees in), and I’ve done some flavor testing to see what hits the hardest for me right now. And that flavor is coffee. I think that was my creamy dessert of choice last time I got really into ice cream.

In particular, I am going for the Cappuccino Cookie Crunch from Kroger (but I’ll also hork down some coffee cheesecake from the local stand), which is weird for me because I typically do not enjoy crumbs in my wets.

Yes, ice cream is a wet.

The Ties on “Suits” (Netflix)

Okay, so like I said, I am not really loving “Suits”. It’s a procedural lawroom show that sometimes overcomplicates all of its cases. It feels a lot like manufactured drama, but you know what?

The ties are great. Like, if I were to ever rewatch this again, I would do a blog or social media account all about the stellar ties these fellas wear. (I won’t watch this again, though.)

The ladies’ dresses, I do not enjoy as much. They lean a bit too asymmetrical for my tastes. Sometimes the earrings are good, though.

Live Music

Seeing Max Richter live made my whole year. I keep listening to the two pieces he performed and remembering the swirly smoky fog and how perfect everything was.

And next month my year’s gonna be made all over again, because I get to go see Jack White with KPerks.

I Love Boosters (again)

I bought this movie the day it became available on streaming, because I was chomping at the bit to rewatch it. A little voice at the back of my head (the ocd, prolly) kept telling me that it’s probably not as good as I remember and I would be disappointed.

I am happy to report that I WAS NOT. Boots Riley’s masterpiece holds the fuck up, and I got even more out of it on a second viewing.

Louis Litt (“Suits”, Netflix)

Okay, look, I said I don’t like “Suits,” but you know what I do love? Louis Motherfucking Litt. I disliked him greatly the first couple of seasons and hated every second he was on screen. Then, his true self started to reveal itself. Then, he started going to therapy, and he learned about himself and what makes him tick right along with the audience.

Louis Litt is an excellent example of working through trauma and facing up to hard things, and his character arc kind of gives the audience a little bit of a roadmap to look deeper into themselves.

Or maybe I just watch TV more deeply than most people.

WIDOW’S BAY (Apple TV)

Yes, this deserves all caps. This show is an unabashed delight. It’s original, it’s fun, it’s scary(ish), it’s emotional, it’s near perfect. I ate this show up so fast, y’all. More original content like this plz.

Everything on Nothing (Podcast)

Yeah, we’re doing another podcast. This time, Mickey and I are joined by our friend Christian to spend a couple of hours answering a question. Here are the topics we’ve covered so far:

Episodes come out every Friday morning, and here are a couple of questions we have on deck:

  • Is Outsider Music exploitative?
  • Is Yahoo where the Internet goes to die?
  • Esports has UNIFORMS?!
  • Why do women get mad when they see a man relaxing?

And so much more. Subscribe to Spotify here and Apple Podcasts here, and just search “Everything on Nothing” wherever else you might get your podcasts!

Merritt Weaver in “Nurse Jackie”

Merritt Weaver shows up on screen in anything? I will get a warm feeling. She is one of the names that, when I see it in the cast list, makes a movie an automatic watch. Sometimes I don’t remember where my warm feelings for actors come from, but I knew it with Merritt.

It’s always been Zoey. However, it has been about a decade since I last watched this show, so I kind of forgot how magical this character actually was. She appears as a pushover in the first few episodes, but then we see her true self and all the complications that come with that.

Ugh, and Merritt Weaver is just so good at it. I wholly love (and accept!) Zoey as a real person who probably exists, even though she’s a fictional TV character from decades ago.

Katrina on “Suits” (Netflix)

Okay, yes, I don’t love the show, but I am a big fan of this character.

And it’s not just because she played Jodie in “Center Stage,” which I have rewatched an embarrassing number of times.

Thing I Hated: The Ending of Boston Public

As much value as I got out of this series rewatch, I was hoping for a solid landing. I did not get that. I got a normal episode with nothing resolved, nothing answered, nothing satisfying.

Fox canceled the show before it could even air the final two episodes that had been filmed. They probably weren’t solid endings either, because they didn’t know they’d be canceled.

I’d like to see them anyways. Also, if anyone would like me to pass these DVDs on to you, please let me know. Be warned, though, the end is frustrating, and there are some episodes that plumb don’t work… including most of the beginning of season 2.

100% worth the watch though.
