Meet My Yard: This Potato Chip Bag

Hello.

You may know two things about me already.

Thing 1

I live in The Professor Haus. It’s on a main drag in the small town where I live. On a normal day of stoop sitting, we’ll see a large variety of cars, busses, walkers, bikers, motorcyclists, golf carters, and more. Being in the Metro Detroit area, some of the cars are even incredibly maintained classic cars.

It’s really a visual treat, y’all. I love being on the stoop.

However with all these visual delights also comes some pollution.

Both noise and trash.

There are a couple of “muscle” cars that pass by on the regular and like to show off by squealing out.

To that, I just roll my eyes and say, “UNNECCESSARY!”

We also get a pretty fair amount of trash in our yard. Most of the time I’ll pick it up and put it in the pocket of whatever I’m wearing.

Believe it or not, I mostly wear pants up here. It’s weird, y’all. I’m a lot more active and a lot more outside, so it makes sense.

Well, one day, we were walking around the yard, looking at all our flowers and whatnot, when I spotted this piece of rubbish.

At first, I rolled my eyes, because… more trash. But then I realized… This wasn’t a potato chip brand I recognized. Which brings me to…

Thing 2

I stan snacks.

One time, a friend sent me a big old box of Rap Snacks because I couldn’t find them where I lived. I saw an article about ‘em and looked for months near me, with no luck. Then one day this big ol’ box of chips just randomly showed up on my doorstep. I love having friends who truly get me, you know?

Finding Rap Snacks is not a problem here in the Metro Detroit area, though. They are EVERYWHERE. They are still some of my favorite chips. The flavors are aces and they don’t leave me feeling all greasy and gross like a Lay’s or similar would.

And then don’t even get me started on their cheese curls:

Ain’t nothing as tasty as these.

Okay, but back to the yard chips.

So, I stan snacks. Few things bring me more joy than discovering a new brand of snack.

However, not when the bag is empty and in my yard as a piece of trash. I wanted to eat them, not throw the bag away!!!

I took to the Internet to research these mystery chips.

*back after a quick google*

Welp, this wasn’t what I was expecting to find.

So, Jail Breaker Brands “was created to provide high-quality products to the corrections industry through commissary providers or direct to facilities.”

I thought I was here for a clever name and some information about the flavor, not to learn about an entirely new industry.

The company was founded in 2021 and focuses on three products that could make life while incarcerated a bit more enjoyable. (at the same time, these specialty items provide another stream of revenue to the facility).

In addition to the chips, which we’ll get into in a bit, Jail Breaker Brands also sells nicotine pouches and seasoning packets.

Why nicotine pouches and seasoning packets?

According to Jail Breaker Brands’ website, “The vast majority of those incarcerated enter a facility having been a frequent user of nicotine products. At Jail Breaker we understand there can be great benefits to a safe and responsible nicotine program. We love helping facilities improve morale while creating additional revenue streams, but most importantly we do it with safety in mind.”

There are four flavors of the nicotine pouches.

The 1-ounce Seasoning Packets come in two flavors, Buffalo Ranch and Crazy Cajun. These packets can be used to season meals served to the incarcerated, as well as enhance the flavors of the recipes they create in their cells.

Now, what about that chip flavor?

Well, on the site, the flavor of the Cell Boss Blend potato chips is described as “spicy, sweet, with a little heat.” Sounds right up my alley. Almost like a spicy All-Dressed, would be my guess.

I’ll keep an eye out for it in a local shop, but I won’t go out of my way to find it if you catch my drift.

I get excited about small snack brands, so I was very excited when I found this unknown brand just floating into my yard one day.

I didn’t know I was gonna learn about a whole new industry.

Oh, one more thing.

There is not a lot about the owner of this company on the site or anything, so I did a little digging of my own. Maybe it was a formerly incarcerated individual who made them? Or something like that with a story that makes the brand even better…

Here is the story that I found:

The owner, Jamie Mosley, is a Kentucky fellow who used to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He worked as a jailer for Laurel County, which is where the idea for this brand was sparked, I imagine.

He still works as a jailer, while handing out his chips to folks at NASCAR events, hoping for a sponsorship or marketing partnership.

Not a lot of info out there about him or the company for that matter. They were only founded in 2021, so we’ll give them some time.

Still wanna try these chips, tho.
