Yes, I mean Valerie Cherish and NOT Lisa Kudrow. The final (so they say) season of “The Comeback” just wrapped up, and it was a true masterpiece. This show has been on my list of favorites for decades now. This final season only served to move it up higher on the list.
Each season was excellent, filled with high points after high point. I missed Mickey in the third season, but they gave him (and Robert Michael Norris, who passed away before the third season was even a gleam in Kudrow and Michael Patrick King’s eyes) a gorgeous send-off.
Like I said, the third season was a full-on masterpiece. A few new characters were added, old friends were revisited, but Jane, Mark, and Valerie were the heart of it all. And I’m not ready to stop spending time with them. My fingers are crossed that in about 10 years, we’ll see the Valerie Cherish documentary Jane has been working on so hard, but until that day, I have some ideas for Valerie Cherish’s future projects.
The White Lotus

This is what I want more than anything. Just picture Valerie in a luxury resort, with Marky Mark, dealing with all the other rich people… who all hate themselves way more than Val does. And the fights over the pool chairs will be EPIC.
Mike White, if you are reading, please make this happen.
The Celebrity Mole Reboot

Look, I know these two things:
- Valerie Cherish participated in The Traiters in “The Comeback” universe already.
- Netflix has already rebooted “The Mole” (poorly).
I still need this to happen. It would be a bonus if Corbin Bernsen were on the season. And even though he never hosted the celebrity “Mole”, just the regular folks “Mole”, I have a physical need for Anderson Cooper to host.
The interactions between him and Val would be priceless.
“Cheers” Reboot

Obviously, this one would be an older version of the “Cheers” we all know and love. I’d love to see, like, Anthony Edwards flex his comedy chops as Sam, maybe? I dunno. I just know I want Valerie as Diane.
And Aubrey Plaza as Carla.
“Troop Beverly Hills” Reboot

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the very first movie I watched more than once in the theaters. Yes, I know they are already rebooting it, and Cameron Diaz is rumored to take Shelley Long’s role. However, I have a physical need to hear Valerie Cherish lead the girls in “Cookie Time”.
Plus, there are some light rumors that the character of Valerie was loosely based on Shelley Long, which totally vibes.
A Solid Drama Play on Broadway

Yeah, yeah, I know Val did “Chicago” in-universe, but I think she’d be fantastic in a tear-jerker drama. Valerie Cherish is way more talented than folks realize. I mean, she has an Emmy, for crissakes! I think she’ll probably score at least one more after her Judge show.
A stage drama (and a Tony!) would be a great way to follow that up!
What would you cast Valerie Cherish (not Lisa Kudrow) in? If you haven’t seen the show, all three seasons (that span over 20 years) are now streaming on HBO Max, and it’s one of the best complete series I’ve ever watched.
And I watch a LOT of television, y’all.
