Burning Love (Yahoo, DVD)

When we did an episode of our podcast all about Yahoo, we found out a lot of things:
- Yahoo is NOT the place where the Internet goes to die.
- Yahoo.com has a very clean search engine with no AI interference (as of this typing).
- Whoever picked the TV shows created by Yahoo has good taste in talent.
Now, we all know that Yahoo saved “Community” from being one season away from fulfilling their ‘Six Seasons and a Movie’ promise. I personally thought it was a banger of a final season. I am also still very much looking forward to the movie. Every now and then Mickey and I will brainstorm possible story lines, and I can’t wait to see if one of them is right!
Well, Yahoo also released a three-season show that is a total send-up of The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise, and it is so fuckin’ funny, y’all. And the cast can’t be beat:
- Ken Marino
- Michael Ian Black
- Natalsh Leggero
- Beth Dover
- Kristen Bell
- Ben Stiller
- Christine Taylor
- Adam Scott
- Colton Dunn
- Jo Lo Truglio
- Paul Scheer
- Adam Brody
- Michael Cera
- Martin Starr
- Kumail Nanjiani
- Leslie Bibb
It’s only available on DVD, but I do own it. So if you know me and wanna see it, pretend I’m your Blockbuster Video and let me lend it to you. I promise there are no late fees (but I might ask for a taste of local candy).
Window Fans (Professor Haus)
It has been HOT a few days here, and as you know, we have no AC. We do, now, have window fans and they have been a major game changer.
Brockmire (AMC+)
Top five shows of all time for me. I haven’t re-watched this since I made crazy person art of the first two seasons almost 5 years ago (?!) and it hasn’t aged a day. I am not exaggerating when I say that this four-season show changed my life in a very positive way.
Hanging My Art Back Up (Professor Haus)
I didn’t talk about it here, but there were a few months there where we were sure that we’d be moving away from the Professor Haus. At one point, it was going to be a fast move too, due to a new job. The first thing our realtor told me to do was “De-Jacki-fy” the house. Which means:
- pack away so many books
- put so many stuffies in boxes
- take so much art offa the walls
- and wrap it up in bubble wrap
Luckily, the job was turned down, a much better (and closer!) one was acquired, and one other small puzzle piece fell into place, allowing us to stay in this incredible house on a wonderful slice of land. I have known this for two-ish months now, but it took me a while to feel safe enough to start unpacking again. It feels good. I can find happiness wherever I am, but I truly love it here.
Every Brilliant Thing (Script)
I watched this on HBOMax last month. This month, I read the play. It’s brilliant. Anyone can play the role, and I bet seeing it live is a transformative experience. I hope I get to see it one day. Hell, I’d probably audition for it if anyone did it locally. Maybe I should do it locally? Anyone know of an empty theater in the round looking for a show?
Peter Facinelli (Nurse Jackie, Netflix)
Yes, yes, Zoey (played by Merritt Weaver) is awesome. So is Dr. Coop, though. I feel like he is an unusual male character for this era of television. He’s unafraid to show his emotions, but isn’t soft? I dunno, I’m really drawn to him this watch through.
I’m almost done too and idk what nostalgia show I’m watching next. I really want to watch “Caroline in the City,” but it is literally NOWHERE.
Fame Sick (book, Lena Dunham)
This book feels like my brain. Almost everything Lena Dunham does feels like my brain. I do not allow myself to power-watch “Girls” anymore, because I can feel my OCD taking over based on what an incredible portrayal of OCD this series, uh, portrays.
The Invite (In Theater, Free with my A24 Membership)

I have been an Edward Norton lover since “Primal Fear,” and that love was solidified with “The People vs. Larry Flynt” and “Everyone Says I Love You” (a Woody Allen musical featuring standards sung by all the performers in the film… even if they aren’t great singers. Except Drew Barrymore, who used a voice double. I have never forgiven her.)
Boy, was it nice to see him on the big screen again! And in such a grown-up comedy! I honestly have no notes for this production. Every shot choice and performance was near perfection. The music added to the drama without overpowering. The apartment was stunning, and everyone was perfect. I love a talking movie, and this is definitely that. I can’t wait to become obsessed with it when it becomes available on streaming.
Game Changer (Dropout TV)

This new season of Dropout is filled to the brim with bangers. From “Count the Rice” to “Noise Some Makes”, this is the most creative show on television. I can’t wait to see what the final episodes of the season bring. Hopefully more Kaylin. And definitely more Robalino, Mr. Paul Robalino.
Crossplay (NYTimes Puzzles)
I have a couple people I play with on the reg and, because I am me, I don’t do it normally. Meaning, I’m not always playing for the points. Sometimes, a theme in the words reveals itself, and then I’ll play to that. Other times, I try to score the most points with the shortest words. And then sometimes I get lazy and just play the first word I see. Depends on my mood really.
Wanna play with me? I am ‘ValleyOhOh’, of course.
Marc Anthony (Big Night, VOD)

I have seen “Big Night” over 100 times, and this is no exaggeration. Aubrey and I get together to watch movies once every few weeks, and this was our most recent. She had never seen it, and I was eager to see her Costume Designer take on the costumes (mostly hand-sewn for the movie and not vintage, based on zipper placement).
This watch through, I was really taken with how good Marc Anthony is in this movie. He has one line, maybe? But the rest of the time, he is there in the background, being whatever someone else needs him to be. He is gentle. He is attentive. He is adorable. I would like to see him act more, plz.
I love sharing this movie with people I love. In my opinion, it is the best food movie of all time, and I would one day like to eat Timpano while listening to my Louis Prima records. I would also invite Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub if they are free.
Oh, also, both Aubrey and I agreed that Tucci is a certified SNACK in this movie.
Dungeon Crawler Carl (Books)
Brother Ryan told me to read this series, and who am I to say no? I am almost done with Book 4 and have a deep love for, like, all the characters. Most of all, I find myself drawn to Katia, who shapes herself into whatever her friends need her to be, something I can really relate to.
These books are FUN as hell, and I can’t remember the last time I read something fun. However, I have spied some friends who are reading this book, um, CRYING, at later books, so I am kind of afraid. Regardless, I am reading these so fast. All of my free time goes to DCC at the moment.
Sandwiches?! (my kitchen)
Look, I like a simple sandwich. Gimme a sub roll split in two.
Top bun gets:
- Mayo
- Mustard
Bottom bun gets:
- Mayo
- Lettuce
- Swiss cheese
- Turkey
- (not honey or any sweet)
- (smoky is okay)
- Salt
- Pepper
In that very specific order. If not, the texture is off, and I don’t enjoy the experience as much.
Hadestown (Theaters)
Cried the whole time. Amber Gray is a force of nature.
My Newest Hall of Fame Lollipop Flavor (also my kitchen)
Sea Kelp. Yup, a sea kelp lollipop.
Leonard Snart (Legends of Tomorrow, Netflix)

This is my third time watching through this show. I put Leonard Snart on this list early, cause I know I love him. However, I’m also very much liking Ray and Mick this watch-through too. “Legends” has a healthy dose of somewhat emotionally intelligent men, which feels kind of surprising for a superhero show.
Parking Lot Hot Dogs (Pine Knob)
Jack White was incredible, and so were the hot dogs KPerks made for us.
