First off – I started watching the season over from the beginning yesterday, just to see if I picked up on anything. Of course, I did. It’s Mike White.
I wrote these before watching episode 7.
- ”quieting your chattering monkey mind” repeated phrase- Episode 1 & Episode 6
- Saxon and Rick got into it on the boat.
- I think Fabian IS obsessed with Sritala and will perform as her when he performs (ed note: He did not)
- I think the Pom Pom tree will be at least one murder weapon; then, I think the gunshots are the fallout of the discovery. (ed note: after next week’s preview, I think this is too obvious)
- I think Lochlan will make Saxon a smoothie with the poisonous fruit of the pom pom tree. (ed note: Again, too obvious)
- Timothy to Pam: “I’ll take care of you at the end of the week.”
- Maybe Belinda DOES die
- She gets the dream guy
- Who wants to open up her dream business with her
- and then gets the money free and clear (if my theory about Greg/Gary giving her money to shut her up is correct)
- Then dies.
- That would be mean, Mike White. Just saying.
- I think Valentin’s two buddies are the ones who robbed the shop in the first episode.

Theories after watching:
- The Ratliffs
- None of them will die. It feels too obvious now.
- At least one of them, if not all, will stay in Thailand permanently
- Chelsea & Rick & Chloe (I guess)
- Chloe is the shooter of at least one gun, based on her Maggie Simpson necklace.
- Chelsea and Rick will live happily ever after.
- The trio
- Still waiting for the paparazzi theory to pay off. They make a big deal about her being famous nad Jaclyn’s on her balcony with her boobs out in the intro.
- Belinda
- Now I’m worried for her again.
- The staff
- Gaitok will do something heroic, showcasing his killer instinct.
- This will get Mook all hype for him.
- He will realize they are not compatible and be happy by himself until he finds someone who is.
Thoughts while watching:
- First off: these are just my raw thoughts while watching. They are barely edited and definitely unfiltered. I like to do this because I think everything is so curated and carefully selected online these days—words, in particular. So, I use my blog to let my word’s freak flags fly in all their glory. Who knows what the fuck I will say next? I do not.
- Do you think Mike White can feel who the breakout star is gonna be each season? I feel like Aimee Lou Wood was inevitable, but I have also felt such a connection and sympathy for Saxon. I think he’s gonna be a standout when the season is over, too.
- FIGHTS!
- fights?
- Oooh, the big meeting with Sritala and Rick!
- Watching Rick physically control his emotions is kind of hot. I don’t think he would have tried had he not had his sessions with Amrit!
- Oh, no, Sam Rockwell do not.
- Yeah, I think Lochlan is gonna kill Saxon based on this montage.
- Oh, how cute, Mook and Gaitok!
- ”Violence does spiritual harm to the victim and to perpetrator”
- Timmy and the Lorazepam.
- “The boat people!” Parker Posey is everything.
- Yup, Belinda will definitely make it back to the resort after the dinner. I think she’s gonna be pleasantly surprised.
- Hot music in this episode.
- Fabian, “Oh, I have a lot of feelings.”
- Jaclyn is DONE.
- Oh, no, Sam Rockwell. I think Rick is gonna feel guilty and come clean.
- I love Victoria swerving into networking mode at this party immediately.
- Saxon feels safe with Chelsea because she is the only person who is honest with him.
- It is exhausting being the “hope” in the “hope and pain” dynamic. EXHAUSTING.
- Timothy is FUCKED UP. Dang.
- Oh, I think someone will die during the fight that we keep cutting between.
- I think this is his dad and not the person who killed his dad. (Rick, obv)
- RICK NO
- okay, we’re at the temple, and Piper does not seem comfortable.
- I prefer soft Gaitok more than the idea of a “killer instinct” Gaitok.
- Mook can shut up anytime. I hope Gaitok realizes he is so much better than her, because he totally is.
- Okay, I was wrong about Fabian’s performance.
- Oh, Laurie is bringing up shit from 15 years ago.
- Shiiiit. “the source of your disappointment changes… but the constant is… you’re always disappointed.” Daamn.
- the claws are OUT.
- Laurie, go to that fight, girl.
- Victoria is cracking me up at this party.
- Saxon is gonna become a man. His own soul is gonna be his outrigger canoe.
- Saxon is raw.
- This episode is raw.
- Am I… rooting for Saxon?!
- The weight that society places on breadwinners is ridiculous. It would be glorious to live in a world where people don’t literally have to kill themselves to make people happy. I really think about it before I make a purchase. Like, I try to keep in mind how many stories, or social media posts each thing that I buy costs me. I used to do the same thing with hours when I worked hourly. I just asked, “Is this item really worth my time?”.
- More often than not, the answer for an item is “no.”
- However, also more often than not, the answer for food or an experience is , “yes.”
- I really value my time, y’all.
- I used to not. I’d sell my sanity to feel like part of a team that paid me pennies for hundreds of dollars of work. I don’t want anyone to ever feel that. That is my biggest life goal (oh, and watching so many movies and singing a lot. and regular bouts of jangly limb dancing.)
- Ooh, look at me, I think I’m right!
- Greg/Gary is responsible for Tonya’s death, though.
- Belinda, you are worth MORE than $100,000, girl. Go for a million.
- Sam Rockwell is gonna take Rick on a bender, I feel.
- RICK DO NOT. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT.
- What growth he’s made.
- All these folks making a quick exit this episode.
- I like Mook less and less as this episode progresses.
- GAITOK FIGURED IT OUT! The bald guy was the one in the ridiculous hoodie!
- Ooh, Lochlan wants to escape from what he, Saxon, and Chloe did.
- I think Piper wants to get away from the entire family, though.
- I do not think this story that Chloe is telling is true. I think she’s trying to set Saxon up.
- Chelsea, sarcastically encouraging this madness is wild.
- This overtly sexual music.
- Good for you, Saxon.
- Rick threw the gun away, woot.
- Belinda doesn’t want to take the money!
- God, Mike White is so good at characters. They are not good or bad, they are all complex and human and horrible, but with good, chewy centers.
- I love this softening of Saxon. We love a man who can be vulnerable. It’s honestly the hottest thing. Gentle vulnerability. But he’s still a shit who wears a mast all the time, though.
- Chelsea felt a connection and panicked. ha. such a human response.
- Are Rick and Frank gonna have a moment together?
- Victoria praying for Piper to be miserable at the temple. “Maybe Jesus will save her from those Buddhists.”
- Carrie Coon is a goddess. It’s that simple.
- Oooh, there’s all the stolen items!!!
- This is ridiculous and I love it.
- But now I am worried for Laurie.
- Rick looks inner peace-y.
- The gun ain’t there, Timothy!
- I mean, thank goodness it ain’t there.
- Okay, now I dunno if the smoothie is gonna be it or not. They teased it pretty hard in the preview.
