Watch List – 3/17-23: What to Watch on Apple TV+ Now That Severance is Over

Television

The Righteous Gemstones S4E3 (Max)

No show makes me say “jesus christ” more than this show. So, yeah, I understand religion.

Severance – S2E10 (AppleTV+)

This was such a satisfying finale.

I laughed. I cried. I gasped. I felt vindicated. I was surprised. Questions were answered. Questions were asked.

It was a cliffhanger, but one I could deal with.

I want to know who the files are that everyone else is working on! Or are they working on nothing and Mark S. is the only important one.

The lighting and cinematography and literally everything was perfect in this episode.

I’m calling Gwendoline Christine the Goat Queen from now on. And, yes, that has two meanings.

Dylan made me cheer with excitement and I kept waiting for Milchick to make some sort of turn.

Ugh, now we have to wait.

If you are wondering what else to watch with your Apple TV subscription, here is a short list of things that I love (some of which are among my favorite shows of the past 10 years):

  • For All Mankind (FUCK YOU SPACE GRANDPA)
  • The Morning Show (the best thing Reese Witherspoon has ever done. Yes, I’ve seen Election.)
  • Mythic Quest (the reason I subscribed in the first place)
  • Loot (Ron Funches, Maya Rudolph, and the most positive masculinity I’ve ever seen)
  • Bad Sisters (Sharon Hogan can do no wrong)
  • Ted Lasso (for emotional happiness)
  • Shrinking (for lessons on navigating human relationships and emotions.) (also, my favorite thing Harrison Ford has ever done, and I wanted to BE Indiana Jones when I was young)
  • Lessons in Chemistry (one season of Brie Larson being lovely and smart)
  • Bad Monkey (Vince Vaughn and Portia from Search Party)
  • Schmigadoon! (a two-season musical romp!)
  • Palm Royale (Carol Burnett and Kristin Wiig playing perfectly offa each other. See also: Natalie from Facts of Life)
  • Strange Planet (based on the popular internet cartoon with the help of Dan Harmon)
  • Snoopy in Space (duh)
Hacks S1-3 rewatch (Max)

Just good TV. I’ve watched this so much that I don’t have anything to say until the life-changing inspiration happens.

Anna Garcia from Dropout was in this! THIS is why I rewatch stuff.

The White Lotus – S3E6 (MAX)

This one deserves its own post, so here it is. It probably won’t be up until Wednesday.

Mythic Quest S4E9 (AppleTV+)

One more episode of this season, and everything feels quite disjointed.

I hope Ian actually realizes how stuck he is and does some growing up.

Abbott Elementary (Hulu)

THE DEAN!!!!!

This was a good episode, but the end has me so stressed.

I love Barbara teaching music, but I’m so worried for Ava.

This can’t be the end of her story.

Australian Survivor Season 12: Brains vs. Brawn 2 E13-15

We merged, and things are still interesting. We’re still team Myles over here. Listen to us talk about the latest three episodes of this fabulous season of Australian Survivor here.

Dimension 20: Fantasy High (Dropout TV)

I still have nothing but incredible things to say about this program.

My note from the finale of the Sophomore Year reads:

Fear is not real.

And I feel that, you know?

We just started Junior Year and the artistry is just incredible.

One of our most recent episodes included something called “The Crow Dimension” and this is what the team came up with.

And the upgrade to the Dome is just incredible. Instead of just colors changing on the LEDs, entire worlds are created.

The number of artists that Sam Reich and Dropout employs warms my heart so much. The artists create and paint the sets and characters, the digital artists create the graphics…, and the list goes on and on.

And that’s just this show! Watch Thousandaires for a heartwarming look at the variety of people this streaming service employs.

At this point in the series, Ally feels very much like a teenage boy to me, and it’s pretty fun to watch.

Two more notes:

  • “MAXIMUM LEGEND”
  • “tough but fair; have a great life”
Smartypants (Dropout TV)

Another meeting of the Smartypants Society and another trio of inspiring presentations.

And, when I say inspiring, I am being literal. I’m planning a slumber party retreat for my birthday this year and one of the nights is gonna be a Smartypants-inspired Powerpoint presentation night.

I can’t wait.

Mostly, though, I can’t wait to introduce new people to Detroit.

Here’s what the presentations were in this episode:

  1. Your Friend Group Needs a Food Captain with Jess McKenna
    • Excellent presentation.
    • Important topic.
    • I volunteer to be Food Captain in any situation.
    • But one time, at least, I want someone to Food Captain for me.
    • As long as they understand I like a lot of garlic.
    • On literally everything.
    • Thank you.
  2. How to Correctly Name a Human Baby with Waleed Mansour
    • Another important topic.
    • Adorably designed presentation.
    • Wasn’t expecting the lessons to spell out something.
    • Nice surprise at the end there, buddy.
  3. How to Take Out a Bad Guy
    • Ooh, Becca Scott. I love this already.
    • Wow, this is such good information to know.
    • Bad guys are never gonna get me now.
    • Oh no! A bad guy!
    • Welp, she took care of him!
    • A truly life-saving presentation.

Can’t wait to see what new things I’ll learn in two weeks!

Movies

Omni Loop (Hulu)

Since it’s March and I’m celebrating everything Irish, I’m trying to watch one Ayo Edebiri movie per week. This week’s was also good enough for its own post.

Poolman (Hulu)

DNF
