Watch List – 4/21-28: Almost Exclusively Dropout TV (& 2 Movies)

This week is a unique and warning: the next couple weeks will be as well.

First off, the weather is gorgeous, so I’m not holed up in a room as much at the moment. Im on the front porch, writing, reading, or just thinkin’ (always listening to one of my five comfort playlists, of course.)

Second off, your girl is busy at the moment. This past weekend, my friend Breanna came over and we wandered around the DIA and spent the night at an upscale hotel to take advantage of a bathtub that fits two people. It was glorious and I’ll have more to say about that later.

Also included in that business is a recently joined bee class, where we’re learning the ins and outs of beekeeping. We have our second class this weekend, where we learn about mites! I’ve never ever been stung by a bee in my life, so I am quite curious to see what it feels like.

I mean, there’s no way I’m not getting stung, right?

Oh, and thirdly, next week, I’m headed to NYC for my very first time. I’m going to see “Oh, Mary!” and yes, I am going to cry. I am also going to see “John Proctor is the Villain” and “Sunset Boulevard” and, most importantly, my friend Aubrey!

Then things ought to settle down a bit, but I’m still spending mad time outdoors, so the screens (aside from my Kindle) are getting a bit of a break, y’all.

Television

Skeleton Crew (Disney+)

This is FUN y’all. I am into the characters, and I think all these kids are gonna be stars… especially Neel. It’s a short bop, and we should finish this week. I’m already ready for a second season, though.

The Rehearsal S2E1 Rewatch (Max)

Logan and I are podcasting about this season, so of course, I will have to watch each episode multiple times. I didn’t watch this week’s episode yet, though, so no spoilers, okay. (don’t worry, I’m watching it during dinner tonight… and tomorrow night, probably.)

SNL – Timothee Chalamet (Peacock)

Weirdly, rewatched this episode as we fell asleep in the luxury hotel.

Hacks S1-3 rewatch (Max)

I didn’t watch any eps this week.

The Studio (Apple TV+)

I am behind!

Dimension 20: A Crown of Candy

I thought something else terrible was going to happen in the episode I watched last night, and I was ready to riot. If anything happens to Liam, I might cry big time. There is something about the innocence and curiosity that Ally brings to their characters that really speaks to me.

And I, of course, love Zac as a Cotton Candy Fella.

Gamechanger S7E2 (Dropout TV)

This episode pleased me deeply. Not only because the concept was excellent, but because Sam put Brennan through the wringer. Almost exactly like Brennan put my own emotions through the wringer with this season of A Crown of Candy.

Game Changer is such a great show conceptually, mostly because the concept is always evolving.

This week’s episode asked Brennan, Ify Nwadiwe, and Katie Marovitch the question, “Can you beat your own scores from one week ago at some silly tasks?”

And then it asks, “Can you also beat the score that you just got an hour ago when we started this episode?”

The challenges included things like:

  • How many clothespins can you clip to yourself in 60 seconds?
  • How high can you jump?
  • How much cheese can you eat?

A+ episode. Can’t wait to see whatchoo got for us next, Sam Reich.

Who jumps higher than Diane Keaton? Nobody,

Very Important People with Vic Michaelis (Dropout TV)

This episode featured someone I only recently became familiar with (and then fell in love with): Alex Song-Xia. I met them on Never Stop Blowing Up, where their innate sweetness quickly made them one of my faves.

I’m glad I watched NSBU before this episode, because I honestly felt like it was a companion piece to it.

Movies

Babygirl (Max)

Third time? Still great.

The Last Supper – 1996 (owned)

When Breanna and I planned her trip, we had many discussions about what to watch. She remembered me telling her about a movie that had a scene with spaghetti. This caused me to have an existential crisis in which I realized that two of my most formative Jacki movies have spaghetti as a main theme.

One? Big Night, widely considered in my own circles as the “best food movie of all time.”

The other? The Last Supper, which is about a group of liberals who invite a conservative over to dinner every week and try to change their mind.

Yoof, this his hard in the current climate. Oddly, very similar to the first time I watched it. Just sadder, because we were getting away from this kind of society and we’re almost right back where we were in 1995.
