Game Changer Season 7, Episode 6: One & Done (DropoutTV)
One of the things I love most about DropoutTV is that they do behind-the-scenes for a lot of things. Sometimes, after an episode of Game Changer, I am more excited about the BTS than I was about the episode itself. Don’t get me wrong, I love them both more than almost anything on my television right now. I also have a special interest in understanding how things are made.
Especially entertainment stuff like this.
So, this episode had Ele Woods, Demi Adejuyigbe, and Zach Reino. They chose from a menu of tasks and completed them. Simple, right? Well, I kept waiting through the whole episode for a round two or a twist.
I mean, there was more to it than that. There were the dancers jumping seemingly out of nowhere and yelling, “YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SHOT” at the contestants before they attempted their tasks. Maybe it was the family phone calls cheering them on, or the fake boxing coach giving a pep talk. Maybe that’s all it was.
But I kept waiting for Sam to do me a twist. And then he didn’t.
And maybe that was the twist. And that’s fine.
I’ll take whatever Sam Reich gives me.

Preacher (Netflix)
This show has made me realize something. In media, I gravitate to characters who are surface shitty, but show glimpses of true humanity.
Well, Cassidy made me realize this. When I first met him, I called him “Mason-coded” because he reminded me of Mason from what will probably always be my favorite show, Dead Like Me. Rube remains my favorite father figure on television as well. I could talk about that show for ages, but I’m not watching it, I’m watching Preacher!
And I am loving it. It’s kind of uncategorizable. It has elements of several different genres: sci-fi, fantasy, drama, and comedy, but not enough of any one of them to be considered that genre. I mean, it’s based on a comic book, so it fits best in that genre, but is that even a genre?
None of this matters, I’m just babbling. WE probably have about a week left on this one, y’all. I’m predicting it ends with the end of the world.

The Bear
This is up next for Logan and I on the podcast. We’re re-watching seasons 1-3 in anticipation of the new season, which will be forcing ourselves to watch one episode per week. It’s gonna be a challenge, y’all. We’re getting together with a recap of Seasons 1-3 over on Twitch. See you there?
Movies

Love Me (Paramount Plus)
We wanted to see this in the theaters but it didn’t play near us, so I kept an eye on when it would stream. We watched it almost the same day, but did a Star Wars to finish up that storyline first.
You know, this wasn’t what I expected. In some ways, the trailer was better than the movie, but then I also haven’t stopped thinking about it, either.
Both Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun gave fantastic performances. They both made me cry more than once.
Here is the description from the experts:
A postapocalyptic romance in which a boy and a satellite meet online and fall in love after the end of human civilization.
Except, are they the experts? A boy and satellite do not meet. A BUOY and a satellite do, though.
It is kind of out there, so if you watch, make sure you have no distractions. That is how I always try to watch things, but sometimes my brain gets in the way. Boo, brain.
You know, I liked it. I liked it enough to google what the directors have done previously (1) but not enough turn to Mickey after it was over and say, “The next movie those directors make will win an Oscar.” (2) and rank it among my top ten movies of all time (3).
- Andrew and Sam Zuchero have only worked together on Love Me. However, Andrew has worked on two similarly themed (based on title alone) projects called Satellite and The Apocalypse.
- Swiss Army Man, obv. And, I was 100% correct. The Daniels did win (an) Oscar(s) for their next film.
- And my top one score that I would love to see performed live by a choir. (Second runner up is Paradise Road)
That’s all, I guess.
