Watch List 6/27-7/6: Watchy, Not Writey

Confession:

I haven’t been feeling very write-y lately. Call it “too hot” seasonal depression. Call it being in a neurodivergent relationship in the middle of a literal capitalistic hellscape.

I haven’t wanted to do much other than be a lump. I’ve been interviewing my friends for a new blog project, and that’s been fun. Logan and I did our first Bear Broadcast and will be doing another one on Wednesday… we’re talking season 4 episode 1 of The Bear.

So, in the interest of keeping this streak alive, I’ll just list what we’ve watched lately and a one-liner about each of them.

I ain’t got much else in me, y’all.

GameChanger (Dropout)

Highlight of my week. I laughed so much and cheered when the game took a turn. This is the best hour on television right now. It brings me so much joy to watch friends having fun.

Preacher (Netflix)

Solid end. Solid show. Cassidy was my favorite.

Ironheart (Disney+)

Maybe my favorite Marvel thing I’ve ever watched? The showrunner is Chinaka Hodge, whose name made me yelp in excitement when I saw it in the credits. She was my favorite part of a Watsky song called Exquisite Corpse. The video is below. Her part is my favorite. I love the way she works with words. She invested 5 years of her life into this show, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. (I say this a lot, I know. I just like watching careers unfold.)

Welcome to Wrexham (Hulu)

Life-affirming. But with ads.

Adults (Hulu)

The dialogue is so tight, it is almost as if Search Party and The Other Two had a baby, and these actors are spitting out the words. Episode 7 made me want a second season. I laughed SO MUCH.

Squid Game (Netflix)

Almost done with Season 2 and it’s gripping. We’d seen season 1 already.

The Bear (Hulu)

Get these thoughts on the podcast. If you wanna see us live and unedited, watch us on Twitch on Wednesdays at 2pm EST! See you there?

Ben Brainard – What a Mature Child (YouTube)

This made me super proud to see. The emotional intelligence in Ben’s comedy is much needed. He’s mature but still silly, and that is my favorite combo. A+ Ben, and I’ll never forgive you for The Iron Giant drinking game that you created in our living room.
