Watch List 7/16-26: Too Much Poker Face

Confession:

I am obsesssed with the Original Broadway Cast recording of “Operation Mincemeat”. IDK where this came from, but it has a hold on me. Do you want it to have a hold on you too? Here is the album on Spotify:

This is a true story about a dead body.

Two songs spark emotional reactions every time: “Dear Bill” and the end end end of “Glitzy Finale.” This is a good show. I hope to see it next time I am in NYC.

Pokerface Season 2 (Peacock)

Love this. A little puzzle every episode with Natasha Lyonne? I’ll take it!

Plus, this show is a guest star FACTORY. I love to see how many Orange is the New Black costars she’s able to work into the cast.

I’m already down for season 3. I hope we see Cole Escola and Parker Posey and Julio Torres, but those are Jacki pipe dreams. I will take the rest of the cast of Search Party, instead, okay? They had Alia Shawkat this year!

Too Much (Netflix)

I am in love with this show. I need it to have four seasons. No more; no less.

Meg Statler is perfect. I am savoring this show, watching maybe four episodes per week. I do not want it to end.

It did, though. And the end was so satisfying. Seeing women support each other in the way they did at the end of this was so heart-warming.

Meg Statler is a star, and I hope this gets a second season. It was an honest portrayal of life with incredible dialogue. I loved it.

Daredevil: Born Again (Disney +)

Enjoyed this. Hated the cliffhanger.

Stick (Apple TV+)

This is fine. Feels a bit emotionally manipulative at times. The kid is a talent, though, and I look forward to seeing him go far.

You know what they get really right that I don’t normally care for in television? Romance. I found myself invested in and rooting for every single romantic coupling in this show.

BIG BIZ with client Zack Fox (Big Fun Network on YouTube)

Mandal was on Jimmy Fallon the other night promoting this new venture of his: Big Fun Network and this was their first offering.

I first saw Mandal at the Orlando Indie Comedy Festival about 10 years ago and, to this day, he has the funniest opener I’ve ever seen live. The rest of the set kept up that same energy.

When we took a trip to Atlanta a few years later, I messaged him on Instagram because I definitely wanted to see him tell jokes again. He told me where to go, we showed up there and laughed our faces off. We talked to him after the show and he said we were the first fans that ever traveled to see him.

Then, he was on our podcast. Then (recently) he was on Adult Swim. Then (also recently) Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney. Then he was doing an incredibly strong opener on Jimmy Fallon.

Now, he’s doing his own thing. He’s one to watch. If he comes to your town… see him. Tell me what name he gives you (if he’s still doing that).

We watched a second version of this with Aida Osman and it was just as much fun as the first ep. Can’t wait for more.

Please Don’t Destroy LIVE: Full Sketch Special / Tour Doc (YouTube)

I love these boys. This was weird, wild and wonderful.

Movies

Office Race (Paramount +)

I saw Beck Bennett and said, “yes, let’s watch it.”

It was fine.

Terrible title.

Other movie

We totally watched another movie, but I remember nothing about it. Not even the title. Must not have been good?
