Confession:
After 48 years on this planet, I think I finally understand what I like in fashion. Not necessarily what makes me look the smallest or what looks sexiest, which were two previous measures I used to choose my clothing. I’ve figured out what makes me most comfortable and what makes me feel most… i guess… Me!!!
Mickey and I recently took Downtown Detroit’s vintage and fashion stores by storm so that I could find something to wear when Aubrey and I go see Color Theories by Julio Torres next month. See? We’re are planning to, like, color wash ourselves in one color to kind of go with the theme of the show.
My brain thought I’d be wearing orange most likely, but instead I fell in love with something in the (almost) highlighter yellow family… and it’s probably the most modestly form-fitting dress I’ve ever owned and I really feel happy in it! I will take pics of course.
During our shopping trip we stopped at bunches of local spots and found something at each and every one of ‘em. Here is a fashion rundown:
- Third Man Records:
- New socks
- New striped shirt (vertical this time!!!!) that makes me feel like an Argentian Futbol fan.
- Taz the Tailor:
- A mystery box that included a pair of shorts made from Thomas the Tank Engine sheets
- Flo Boutique
- An adorable black dress with a very chill white floral print on it. The sleeves have volume, as does the skirt… and it has pockets! I think I will wear it when I go see Hadestown next month.
- A vvery stylish pair of sunglasses with red lenses for Mickey
- Flamingo Vintage:
- An orange crop top that says “Michigan Lady Gators” with the Florida Gators logo on it (it is from an U-14 softball team, apparently)
I have been wearing the shit out of two things since I’ve become comfortable in my taste and body:
- Crop Tops
- VOLUME
I love love love oversized t-shirts and almost never buy anything smaller than an XL. I love the part of my body where my waist slopes into my hips, so I look good as hell in a crop top, y’all. Between my ex and mom both convincing me that shwoing my kind of soft tummy was the worst thing the world could experience, I kept that bitch hidden for almost 50 years.
Fuck that. Y’all are gonna get familiar with my belly button. (it’s an innie and oddly wide and deep for some reason.)
TV
Tucci in Italy (Hulu)
Sometimes, a person just needs Stanley Tucci to speak to them calmly about Italian food.
Ted (Peacock)
Nine episodes was not enough for this solid comedy. That’s it. I said plenty about it last week. Alanna Ubach was stellar.
There is an amimated series coming next year, but it doesn’t appear to be an extension of this live-action series, which is honestly too bad.
The After Party (AppleTV)
Y’all, give me 18 more seasons of this. The detail in the writing makes me want to watch these two seasons over and over again. I feel like it’s one of those shows that we’ll notice more and more clues as we watch again and again.
I don’t always like to rewatch shows, but when I do, it can get obsessive. Remind me to tell you about my dream of having a “Brockmire” retreat where I bring my friends to a place with a killer telelvision to hole up and watch the entirety of the series so we can really work on our masculinity worship and substance abuse. I feel dumb saying this, but that show really helped me see a way out of drinking being the only way I could feel comfortable around people. A lot of that had to do with being comfortable with myself.
But back to this show. Tiffany Haddish and Sam Richardson have wonderful friend chemsitry and comedic timing. The guest stars were impeccable and the story kept me engaged throughout.
My favorite thing in the writing was the subtle changes in dialogue between retellings of the story. It was sublte and did an excellent job of showing motivation and reasoning behind the characters actions.
We’d seen season 1 already, so that was a rewatch. Near the end of it, when we were having some stooptimes between episodes, I said to Mickey,”The writing is great, but I wish they’d gone a bit harder with the genres. They all seem a bit alike to me.”
They answered my call in season 2, where I found myself getting all emotional at the perfection of some of the theming throughout the episodes… in particular the Jane Austen and Wes Anderson sendups. I kept squealing at the Jane Austen one; it was simply perfect.
I dunno why Apple TV hasn’t announced a season 3 yet. This show totally deserves one. Let these babies solve another murder, please!!!!
Resident Alien Season 4 (Peacock)
This probably would have have harder had I watched it right after the first three seasons. It’s still good though.
I like these people and spending time with them. My thoughts on the ending next week. ( We haven’t finished yet)
