Watch List November: The ‘Animals’, Two Versions of ‘Utopia’, and some ‘Loot’

Confession:

I feel like this might sound snobby or holier-than-thou or something, but it is on my mind, so I will say it.

Sometimes I wish I hadn’t gone through all the trouble of untangling so much in my brain. It feels like a lonely place to live some days. I’ve curated a pocket of people who have done similar work on themselves, and I love them all so much.

But part of doing the work on myself is knowing that, as a friend (especially a close one), I can be *a lot*. So I don’t want to overwhelm and cause friend burnout. I want to keep the friends I have now close and long. I want us to keep growing together and learning about (and improving ourselves.)

And some of these people I have already known for decades, so we’ve got some great times ahead.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Seasons 2 & 3 (AMC+)

You know this was fine.

The Paper (Peacock)

So I watched and enjoyed this, but I can’t say I recommend it? It was cute and funny and nice, but nothing special. I mean, I’ll watch season 2. All the characters grew on me a lot by the end.

SNL (Peacock)

Miles Teller

Solid, fine. I can’t even remember any of the sketches now. But I kind of wish there had been a Whiplash one.

Nikki Glaser

Best monologue of the season. I love it when a stand-up comedian hosts.

Glen Powell

A banger from beginning to end. Weekend Update was short, but the other sketches were so solid, it was worth it.

Animals. (HBOMax)

GODDAMN THIS WAS GREAT.

I avoided watching this for SO LONG, because the cover image made me actively mad.

I really need to stop doing this, cause this was a fucking GEM.

I Love LA (HBOMax)

I will watch Rachel Sennot in A N Y T H I N G. I dunno how to explain it, but seeing her in Shiva Baby for the first time reminded me of the first time I saw Parker Posey. In case you do not know, Parker Posey has remained my favorite actress since Jessica Tandy died.

This show is great. It gets me hype for television of women’s friendships. Four episodes in and I want at least 5 seasons, plz.

Invincible (Amazon Prime)

This is up there with the best superhero, uh, things I’ve ever seen. A+ writing and casting, Holy shit so many people are in this.

Batfam (Amazon Prime)

Edited by a friend and adorable from beginning to end!

Upload (Amazon Prime)

Solid show throughout. It seemed like they were having a lot of fun. I’m in love with all the new imaginary tech they created.

Utopia (Amazon Prime)

We enjoyed this so much, we’re watching the British version next.

Utopia – British Version (Amazon Prime)

With each episode of the British Version we watched, the American version got worse and worse in comparison. By the end, the American version was a pile of dog shit, an embarrassment (with some really great little kid acting), something never to be mentioned again.

I’m SO SAD the British version didn’t get a season 3.

Crowd Control (Dropout)

Baron, Tina, Kiran

A+ episode. It should have been a three-way tie. We’re five episodes in, and this show is really settling into itself. I can’t wait to see someone I know on it!

Mose, iFy, Leslie

I mean, still great. I hope Sam Reich gives this show another season.

Dirty Laundry (Dropout)

Always a good time.

The Chair Company (HBOMax)

What can I even say about this masterpiece that I haven’t already said?

The Morning Show (AppleTV+)

I accidentally watched most of Season 4 on a Saturday that Mickey randomly had to work. I got caught up, and I was SO MAD, because season 4 is SO GOOD.

Loot (Apple TV+)

Maya Rudolph and Run Funches, I cannot ask for more. I rewatched the first two seasons before watching the third season so I could fall in love with everyone all over again. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

Starting season 3 just makes me all warm and fuzzy.

After The Hunt (Amazon Prime)

Between I Am Love and Challengers, Luca Guadagnino became a director that I will always watch. So, the week this movie was streaming, my eyes were on it. And I enjoyed it muchly. Not enough to remove Challengers from the top of my Luca list, but good, still.

Julia Roberts is a fantastic actress. I just wish she would stop scream-laughing in every single project.

Frankenstein (Netflix)

Masterpiece.
